In August of 2007 I turned 25 and decided it was time to make some changes in my life…major changes. Unsatisfied with my day to day routine, I searched high and low for potential paths to happiness and in September, rediscovered my passion for golf.

Having not played more than 10 times over the past nine years, when I first began, it was tough going. I began taking lessons every week, joined a driving range, started working-out regularly, hit thousands of balls, putted and chipped 3-4 hours/day, and within the first 2 months went fromshooting in the 100s to 80s.

Making good progress I decided it was time to set some goals, break 80, shoot par, get some tournament experience, then make a run at the tour. Knowing achieving these goals would require all my time and energy, in December, I quit my Job took up training full time.

A couple months into the adventure it became apparent that living unemployed, playing golf everyday in Orange County California was going to run my bank account dry. So, in February, I bought a one-way ticket to Thailand, a 3rd world country with the two things I needed most; cheap rent and golf.

Settling into the city of Pattaya, I traveled around on a 125CC motorcycle, clubs on my back, and practiced and played as much as possible. Late February, I broke 80 by shooting a miraculous 36 on a back nine, after shooting a 43 on the front. From there the progress continued and I started shooting in the upper 70s regularly.

However, around April, things started to go sour as my financial situation went into turmoil. Before long I found myself on the other side of the planet with a negative balance in my checking account. I scrapped by for the next couple months, but my golf game went sour and even had a patch of hair fall out of my head from the stress (luckily it grew back).

Getting frustrated, I bought a ticket home and at the moment I’m settling back into southern California on the cheap keeping the dream alive as long as I can.
